PEOPLE – Anna Malaika Tubbs Examines the American Patriarchy in New Book Erased (Exclusive)

Dr. Anna Malaika Tubbs is analyzing the patriarchy in a new nonfiction book.

The author will publish Erased: What American Patrarchy Has Hidden From Us, a new nonfiction book, this spring. Forthcoming from Flatiron Books, Tubbs’ new book examines the history and development of the patriarchy in the United States.

In Erased, Tubbs argues that humanity in the U.S. is tied to both a “limited and flawed” gender binary, per the book’s synopsis, as well as whiteness. It also looks to elements like the country’s founding fathers, the current Supreme Court and the maternal health crisis as evidence. Through a blend of academic research, analysis and personal experience, the book offers tools to dismantle the system, like intuition, courage and power.
